BAAN RAKSA

a place of
healing
happiness
and home

HAPPY HEALING HOME, PANG TURM VILLAGE, NORTH SAMOENG, CHIANG MAI, THAILAND
"PERMACULTURE IS NATURE'S WAY. EVERY BEING HAS ITS PLACE.
THIS INCLUDES NOT ONLY FRUITS AND VEGETABLES BUT ANIMALS TOO.
WE MUST HAVE PERMACULTURE BOTH IN THE WORLD OUTSIDE AND WITHIN OUR BODIES AS WELL."

BAAN RAKSA: A PLACE OF HEALING

BAAN RAKSA means Healing Home in Thai. We aim to teach the world about sustainable living, local culture, and meditation!
Here you can learn about sustainable agriculture, organic farming, forest survival, meditation, medicinal plants, Lanna music, cooking and so much more. And best of all, WE ACCEPT VOLUNTEERS ALL YEAR LONG!
Our organic farm is a Sustainable Living Project initiated by a small group of people in Thailand. It is run by Pinan Jim (who was a Buddhist Monk for 16 years) and his wife Pinan Tea. Together they own the 10 acres where the project takes place. This is a relaxed and caring environment where we invite enthusiastic volunteers of all ages to stay on the farm, to live together as a family and to work towards a common goal - a place where we can learn how to better ourselves as humans.

Happy Healing Home is a 3 hour ride into the ever-green mountains of Chiang Mai, located in the district of Samoeng. The farm is surrounded by a constellation of dense forest, small villages, and fields planted with rice, peanuts, garlic and marigolds. There is a river flowing near by, a lake to swim in, and in the rainy season waterfalls cascading across the lane. The majority of our vegetables are planted in the front gardens, bordered by our volunteer-built huts. Our chickens live close to a pond fed by a small mountain stream, surrounded by coconut, banana, and papaya trees There are rice fields, avocado orchards, and coffee slopes planted towards the back of the property, which can be reached by hiking along beautiful forest trails.

MEET THE FOUNDERS, PINAN JIM & PINAN TII
"PINAN MEANS BROTHER, SISTER, FORMER MONK, SOON TO BE MONK, SOMEONE WHO IS CLOSE TO KNOWING THEMSELVES, SOMEONE ON THE JOURNEY TO BECOMING A WHOLE HUMAN BEING."

PINAN JIM

Pinan Jim Kumsrisom comes from a great line of herbal medicine men, blessed with the healing knowhow of his ancestors before him. He left his hometown as a young boy to study Buddhism, eventually graduating with a Masters degree in Buddhist philosophy. He lived as a Buddhist monk for 16 years, when he was promoted to Abbot of several wats. Due to his commitment he was eventually bestowed the Certificate of Divinity by the King. Later, Pinan Jim sought a spiritual life outside of the temples, spending two yearas alone in the forest, some time experiencing city life, and some time teaching in the mountains surrounding his home town. This is when he met Pinan Tii.

PINAN TII

Pinan Tii left her home in northeast Thailand to study Rural Development and Business. She met Pinan Jim while working in the mountains surrounding his hometown. Together they decided to settle close to Pang Term village, Pinan Jim's hometown, where they set out to live a simple sustainable life. It is there they still live with their 19 year old son, Pinan Thung.

Pinan Tii has an immense knowledge on farming and gardening with the local Thai permaculture style. She loves to cook with the vegetables and herbs grown in the garden and shares her knowledge with everyone. It’s her joy in life to heal people with healthy and truly organic food cooked with care and love.
The Kumsrisom family plays an important role in their small village. Pinan Tii is active with the local primary school and Pinan Jim has taken over his father's position as herbal medicine man of the area. Villagers and foreigners alike, come to him asking for herbal remedies. Over the years, Pinan Jim and Pinan Tii have formed a network of support, gaining the respect of fellow locals from their work.
